The Acalanes Men’s Soccer team falls in their season opener to Washington High School, 1-0.
Acalanes and Washington both relied heavily on their defenses throughout the game. In the first half neither had scored and the Dons had only gotten off one shot on goal.
In the second Acalanes made a critical defensive error that ended up costing them the game. Senior Nathan Ferreira committed a foul in the box that resulted in a penalty kick for Washington. Washington converted the penalty on junior goalie Alex Longerbeam, that had replaced senior Eric Sirrot for the second half.
The Dons next game in the Winter Classic tournament is Thursday. The Dons will need to put a greater emphasis on offense to get their first win of the season.
