The Men’s basketball team (1-5) traveled to Sir Francis Drake to take part in The Red Brown tournament.

Acalanes first matchup would be host, and defending Nor-Cal champion, Sir Francis Drake. The last time the two teams matched up was when the Dons battled on the road to take down the Pirates in overtime, in the quarterfinals of last year’s North Coast Section (NCS) playoffs. Even though Drake lost in NCS playoffs they were still allowed to participate in the state playoffs. Seizing the opportunity, the Pirates advanced all the way to the state championship where they lost to Chaminade.

Drake was not ready to lose to the Dons twice in a row however, The Pirates started off the game strong and never let it come close in a blowout to send the Dons to take on Terra Linda in the Consolation bracket.

Unlike the game before the Dons came out strong, led by Joey Hewitt’s 34 points to take out Terra Linda by 30 points and head to the Consolation championship.

The Don’s opponent would be Hercules High school, who defeated Foothill high school in the round before. Hercules came out strong and led the Dons by 18 points heading into half-time. The Dons would not go down without a fight battling all the way back and eventually taking the lead by three points in the final minute. But a three pointer from Hercules would push the game into overtime.

Hercules would ride their momentum into overtime shutting out the Dons and winning the game along with the Consolation championship.

The Dons next opponent is powerhouse St. Mary’s of Stockton on December 16th on the Don’s home floor.
