The Acalanes Men’s Basketball team (4-12) fell to Dublin 68-55 this Friday night.

The Dons dropped yet another game to a strong Dublin team, off to a very shaky start this 2014-15 season. This year’s squad really suffered, losing all starters but one and most of their bench players from last year’s team.

Acalanes started out the game strong and remained close to Dublin throughout the first quarter. There was a lot of back and forth from both teams that made a for a very exciting game.

The second quarter proved to be just as exciting as the first, with both defenses playing strong. Neither team was able to pull away and the Dons had managed to the up the game at 27 going into the half.

However, the second half of the game was a completely different story for the Dons. It stayed close but Dublin kept breaking down the Dons’ defense and slowly pulled away. By the end of the third, 8 points had separated Acalanes from Dublin.

In the fourth, Dublin extended the lead further and put double digits between them and the Dons. In a last ditch effort Acalanes started putting up more shots but Dublin was able to subdue their scoring attack. A handful of free throws towards the end of the game put the Dons in an even deeper hole. And for the 12th time this season they weren’t able to crawl out. Senior captain Joey Hewitt lead the scoring column for the Dons with 16 points.

Acalanes’ next game is against DFAL powerhouse Miramonte at home. The Dons will really have to turn things around if they hope to end their current losing streak.
