The Acalanes Women’s Soccer Team (14-1) tied the Miramonte Lady Matadors 0-0 this friday night during a downpour that wreaked havoc on both the match and the Lady Dons’ win streak. The downpour that began friday afternoon did not keep the Lady Dons and Lady Matadors from taking the field, but it did make for a very slow and very wet soccer match.
The weather had created puddles of water on the field that players found themselves slipping in as well as impeding the progress of the ball.
“We played during a rainstorm and the field was like a pool,” said junior Regan McQuain. “The ball would be passed and randomly stop on parts of the field that were drenched with water.”
Nonetheless, the Lady Dons still came out with their fiery offensive attack. However, it was quickly put out by the continual downpour. It kept an Acalanes squad that had scored five goals the last time they played Miramonte to zero. It was an unfortunate end to the Lady Dons’ win streak but their stout defense kept the team from falling in the DFAL standings.
Acalanes next game is against Alhambra at home in what will be Acalanes’ senior night. The Lady Dons will close out DFAL strong with a win against the Bulldogs and finish league play in first place.
