The Acalanes Women’s Soccer team defeated the Alhambra Bulldogs 3-1 on senior night to win the DFAL League title outright. The Lady Dons came up clutch in a must win game that will greatly improve their seeding come the NCS playoffs.
Acalanes was pumped up for this match not only to win it for the seniors but also to win the league title. The Lady Dons came out firing and it was Kierra Krawec that was first to break the scoring tie. Krawec scored off of a cross from Allison Merrill to show that the Lady Dons came to play.
However, Alhambra would not back down that easy. A few minutes later the Bulldogs got one past the stout Acalanes defense and evened the scoring. Acalanes did not panic and about a minute later, Caroline Clark crossed it to Callie Ericksen who found the back of the net to give the lead back to the Lady Dons, as well as some momentum heading into halftime.
In the second half, the Lady Dons controlled possession in order to retain their lead. Around halfway through, senior Katharine Torchio scored off a free kick from Morgan Rogers to seal the deal and give the Lady Dons the title. Acalanes managed to keep the ball from a desperate and frustrated Bulldogs team for the rest of the half and goalie Sophia Giordano made some remarkable saves to ensure the Lady Dons’ victory.
Acalanes now waits for the NCS playoff bracket to come out to see their seeding as they will begin tournament play next week.
