The Acalanes Men’s Soccer team fell to the Campolindo Cougars 3-0 this thursday night in their final match of the season. The Dons struggled with their offense as they have done all season and their usually solid defense fell apart tonight.
The game was sluggish from the beginning with the Dons playing catch up and batting away Campolindo’s offensive attacks while struggling to get any offense of their own started. Campolindo finally broke through Acalanes’ weary defense.
The Dons managed to stay close and only had a goal deficit heading into halftime.
The second half was more of the same. Campolindo continued their offensive strikes and slowly chipped away at the Dons’ defense. Acalanes eventually crumbled and let in another goal, putting themselves in a very deep hole.
With their offense stagnant and their defense still on their heels, the Dons conceded another goal, sealing their fate. Acalanes failed to score in the remaining minutes and lost yet another game without scoring a single goal.
This was the Dons’ final game of the season as the team did not perform well enough to qualify for NCS. It was a disappointing season for coach Paul Curtis and the Dons, who qualified for the NCS playoffs the four prior seasons. The team will rely on the development of their underclassmen during the offseason if they wish for better results next year.
“It is what it is,” senior Will Price said.
