The Acalanes Women’s Soccer team continued their domination of opponents with an 8-1 win against El Cerrito in the first round of NCS. The Lady Dons had a stellar regular season and procured the top seed in the playoffs, an unfortunate circumstance for El Cerrito.
Even before the game started it was evident the Lady Dons had the upper hand. On the first possession of the game, sophomore Katharine Larson dribbled a couple defenders, ran the ball down and fired a shot past the goalie to put Acalanes up 1-0. El Cerrito did not even know what had hit them.
Freshman Kierra Krawec extended the lead with a goal of her own. And then sophomore Caroline Clark scored back to back goals to put Acalanes up 4-0 heading into halftime. El Cerrito did not even have a shot on cage.
The Lady Dons retained possession for almost the entire second half, and it was more of the same. Krawec took on the offensive load and scored four more goals. Her goal total of 5 is one shy of a double hattrick, an almost unheard of accomplishment.
The one mistake made throughout the entire game came with only ten minutes to play. Some miscommunication between the goalkeeper and Acalanes’ back line of defense gave El Cerrito a shot that they capitalized on. After that fumble, the Lady Dons held onto the ball and advanced into the second round.
