By Tommy Fellner

The Acalanes Women’s basketball team (20-6) defeated Las Lomas 69-46 this friday night in the Lady Dons’ final regular season game of the 2014-2015 season. Acalanes reached 20 wins for the first time since 1999 and will carry this momentum into the NCS playoffs, that begin next tuesday.

The Lady Dons came out as spirited as ever and took an early lead on the Lady Knights. However, after the initial breakaway, the two teams matched each other basket for basket until the end of the first. Acalanes was up by 7.

In the second quarter, the Lady Dons took their foot of the gas pedal, and the Lady Knights capitalized. The Lady Dons failed to get rebounds, something they pride themselves on and gave the Lady Knights extra opportunities. Outscored 17-8 in the second quarter, Acalanes trailed 28-30 at half.

Acalanes locked down on defense in the third quarter and completely stifled Las Lomas’ offense. The Lady Dons forced them to take tough shots and swarmed the boards so as not to allow any second chance baskets. Acalanes also turned up the heat on offense and won the quarter 20-4.

In the fourth the Lady Dons maintained their distance from Las Lomas and closed out the game with a 69-46 win.

This will boost their chances of getting a top seed in NCS and also added confidence that they can handle any opponent that steps in their path.
