Baseball Edges Crosstown Rival Miramonte

By Tommy Fellner

The Acalanes Baseball team (10-6, 4-0 DFAL) barely defeated Miramonte High School this Tuesday night by a score of 1-0.

Acalanes, reliant as ever on their pitching unit, got a big break today from senior Zach Stromberg. Stromberg, who has previously been named Blueprint’s Athlete of the Issue, reaffirmed this status and added to his accolades today by pitching a shutout.

This year’s baseball squad has not been known for it’s offense, and Stromberg and fellow pitchers help the Dons win games by keeping other teams from scoring.

The game had been completely scoreless with Acalanes’ offense unable to generate any scores and Stromberg stifling Miramonte from even getting a runner on base.

This continued until the top of the 7th, sophomore Matt Burns hit a deep triple to put himself in scoring position and to give Acalanes the lead. Burns took a lead off of third, ready to sprint home if Acalanes got a hit.

However, Acalanes didn’t get a hit, but a major error was committed by the Miramonte pitcher. He threw an errant ball that went past the catcher and allowed Burns to streak home for the winning run.

This win kept the Dons atop the DFAL standings and preserved their undefeated record in league play. Acalanes’ next game is Thursday against Alhambra.
