Women’s Lacrosse Streaks Past Justin Siena into NCS Semifinals

By Tommy Fellner

The Acalanes Women’s Lacrosse team, the 2 seed in NCS, trampled Justin Siena High School, the 7 seed, by a score of 17-5 this Friday night.

Acalanes got out to a fast start with senior captain Caith Wright scoring 4 goals. Senior captain Caroline Newman added a goal and Justin Siena quickly found themselves in a deep hole.

However, Wright quickly found herself in foul trouble, receiving two yellow cards which resulted in her being ejected from the game. Rattled by this devastating loss, Acalanes allowed Justin Siena to get settled and start to go on the offensive.

Junior Sophie Ross put two goals away for the Lady Dons and Acalanes maintained a healthy 11-5 lead heading into halftime.

Out of the half it would be Ross and Newman that took over for the Lady Dons. Newman scored three successive goals to put Acalanes up 14-5.

Again in foul trouble, Acalanes received their fourth yellow card, forcing the team to play a man down for the rest of the game. This did not deter the Lady Dons however, and they continued to rack up goals.

Ross put another goal away and put the Lady Dons up 10 before sophomore Anna DeRoque scored with 5 minutes left to play. The final goal was fired in by Sophie Ross and it tacked on Acalanes 17th goal of the game.

The final score was Acalanes 17 Justin Siena 5. Ross led the way with 6 goals, Newman added 5 and Wright 4.

Acalanes plays next Wednesday in the NCS semifinals.
