// The Acalanes football team defeated Skyline High School 49-0 this Friday night. This blowout win was a relief to the Dons after suffering a 62-7 loss in their first game of the season.
Acalanes rebounded in their second away game and dominated Skyline throughout the entire game. Senior Leo Barakos got the scoring going early with a running touchdown to put Acalanes up 7-0.
The Dons stopped Skyline’s first drive of the game and looked to reinforce their first score. The Dons had a successful drive led by senior captain Jake Berry that resulted in a Barakos run to put Acalanes up 14-0.
The Dons then halted Skyline again on defense to end the first quarter with a 14 point lead.
The second quarter was much of the same with the Dons adding 21 points and holding Skyline to 0.
Berry threw a touchdown to senior Ryan Leamy and senior Nathan Edwards ran for a touchdown as well as junior running back Markus Wesser.
Acalanes added another touchdown in the third, when Berry connected to senior tight end Matthew Mesetz for a score and a 42-0 lead.
Acalanes’ defense remained relentless and stifled Skyline’s offense the entire night. The defense also relied on the offense’s long drives allowing them to get rest so they could continue to disrupt Skyline’s offense.
The Dons scored again in the fourth to reach a final score of 49-0.
Acalanes has its home opener against Heritage next Friday.
