The Acalanes football team (2-3) trounced league opponent Alhambra 34-13 this past Friday to snap their two game losing streak.
This was a much needed win for a Dons team that has been plagued by injuries and has been relying on younger players to step up and fill roles.
The Dons were first to get on the board in a defensively dominated game and followed up their score with another touchdown with only 1:23 left in the second quarter to go up 14-0. Alhambra then put together a speedy drive to find the end zone with only 3 seconds left in the half and make it a one score game.
In the second half the Dons and the Bulldogs experienced more back and forth drives with not much to show for their efforts.
Alhambra scored another touchdown but missed the PAT to make the score 14-13.
In the fourth quarter the Dons came alive on both sides of the ball.
Senior running back Nathan Edwards charged into the end zone to put the Dons up 21-13.
On the next drive Edwards found a hole in the Bulldogs defense and sprinted past everyone for an 80 yard touchdown run that gave Acalanes a huge momentum boost.
Alhambra then charged down the field to cut the lead but threw a pass that was picked off by junior Nick Price, who was all over the field the entire game and totaled three interceptions, and returned it 70 yards for another Dons touchdown.
That play sealed the deal and the Bulldogs couldn’t rebound from the Dons’ 20 point run.
The football team travels to Dublin next Friday to hopefully extend their winning streak.
