The Acalanes Womens Waterpolo team (10-4, 3-0 DFAL) trounced league opponent Las Lomas 11-4 this wednesday night to preserve their perfect league record.
The game got off to a slow start with neither the Lady Dons nor Lady Knights able to find the back of the net. However, an Acalanes exclusion led to a Las Lomas power play that resulted in a goal from the post.
Acalanes rebounded and snuck one past the Las Lomas defense to even the score. The Lady Dons then put up another goal to go up 2-1.
Led by goalie Lucy Fellner the Lady Dons’ defense began to dictate the game, completely stagnating Las Lomas’ offense and holding them to zero goals in the second quarter.
While taking care of business on the defensive end, Acalanes continued to put away their shot opportunities and widen the gap between themselves and the Lady Knights. Myall and Kresnak provided for the majority of the offense for Acalanes.
Acalanes led 6-1 at the half.
The third quarter Las Lomas’ offense came alive and they scored out of set on their first possession of the half. Acalanes responded with a goal of their own to maintain the goal margin.
Las Lomas then scored again, but Acalanes responded with a goal of their own to make the score 8-3. Defense dominated the rest of the quarter and Acalanes was able to put away one more goal to go up 9-3 at the end of the third.
In the fourth the Lady Dons maintained control of the game and outscored the Lady Knights 2-1 to make the final score 11-4.
This win sets up a huge league match of undefeateds next week where Acalanes will face off against Miramonte in what will decide the DFAL League champion.
