The Acalanes Womens Volleyball team (14-6, 7-2 DFAL) swept Dublin High School in 3 sets this past Thursday to retain their second place spot in DFAL league play.
The Lady Dons came out hot, sparked by excellent serving from senior Carly Porep. After scoring 5 straight points, Acalanes finally conceded a point to Dublin. The Lady Dons won 4 more points before they conceded another.
With this 9-2 lead, Acalanes never looked back and maintained a steady double digit lead over Dublin. Backed by their steady defense the Lady Dons cruised to an easy 25-11 victory in the first set. Even without star Parker Jones the Lady Dons still managed Dublin.
The second set Dublin came out hot and gained a big lead over the Lady Dons. Dublin was up 7-1 before senior Reilly Webster finally broke the scoring drought.
Acalanes slowly crept back into the game until it was finally 11-13 with Dublin still in the lead. Off of a Devin Grobeck ace Acalanes finally regained the lead 16-15.
After this the Lady Dons finally regained their composure and handled Dublin the rest of the way, winning the second set 25-16.
The Lady Dons did not want a repeat of the second set and got out to an early lead. Jones finally got to the game in the 3rd set and made her presence felt with a kill. Acalanes had a repeat of the first set, leading 19-9 but then Dublin came alive.
Dublin then outscored the Lady Dons 8 to 3 to bring the score to 24-18. But senior Maddie Graham delivered the final kill to ensure the Acalanes sweep and send Dublin packing.
Acalanes hosts its Senior Night this Tuesday against Alhambra.
