Men’s Soccer Blanks Moreau

The Acalanes Mens soccer team defeated Moreau high school 3-0.

After struggling with scoring issues last season, the Dons appeared to have resolved this problem in the 2015-16 season.

Gabe Singer found the back of the net just 3 minutes into the game. Charlie Delamore crossed the ball in front of the cage but it was fumbled by the goalie and Singer capitalized and kicked it into the back of the net.

10 minutes later, Moreau’s goalie took out Singer inside the box, fouling him and resulting in a penalty kick for the Dons. Singer rocketed home the penalty into the left side of the goal for his second goal of the match and gave Acalanes a 2-0 lead.

Acalanes led 2-0 at the half.

The second half the Dons were able to control the game. Midway through, senior captain Ian Franklin took a hit to the knee. Franklin went down hard and has allegedly sprained his MCL. This would be a huge psychological and physical loss for the Dons, losing both Franklin’s presence and ability on the field as well as their spiritual leader.

Shortly thereafter, the Dons put together a beautiful passing sequence that ended with Luis Martinez flicking the ball on a cross to Gabe Singer, who found himself wide open in the middle and coolly directed the ball into the cage, completing his hat trick.

Acalanes maintained a strong defensive front and ended the game with a clean sheet, winning 3-0.
