By Tommy Fellner // The Acalanes Women’s Basketball team (13-3, 2-1) defeated Dougherty Valley 65-54 this Friday night to extend their home winning streak to 8 games.
It was an intense first quarter with neither team able to get out early and grab a big lead. After much back and forth the score was tied at 19 apiece at the end of the first.
The second quarter was more of a defensive battle with neither team able to get control of the game. The Wildcats did take the lead, outscoring the Lady Dons 13-11 in the second.
Acalanes trailed 32-30 at the break.
After the half a new Acalanes team was on the floor. From the whistle to start the third quarter the Lady Dons dominated. They pressured Dougherty Valley on defense, forcing turnovers and capitalized on the Wildcats’ mistakes on offense.
Acalanes was finally able to assert themselves and took a 51-39 lead at the conclusion of the third quarter.
The Lady Dons were unable to continue their momentum from the third quarter. The game returned to what it was in the first. Back and forth with the Lady Dons maintaining a safe distance from Dougherty Valley. Acalanes made their free throws down the stretch and closed out the game 65-54.
Emma Godfrey piled up 18 points, Brooke Panfili added 17 and Julia Lyons posted 15 points and 7 assists for the Lady Dons who will face crosstown arch rival Campolindo on Friday.
