Dons Baseball Remains Undefeated in League in win over Las Lomas

By Julian O’Donnell

// The Dons (18-2 overall, 8-0) entered Tuesday’s game looking to remain perfect in league play, and did just that with a 3-1 win over the Las Lomas Knights.

Wasting no time, Acalanes got to work in the 1st inning. With men on second and third, Senior Tom Henderson would hit a liner up the middle to score Matt Burns, making the score 1-0. Following suit, Junior Daniel Kim would knock home Jake Berry on a fielder’s choice.

A 2-0 lead early on gave starting pitcher Josh Candau enough to work with. Pitching five strong innings, Candau was able to get out of messes several times and proved to be the deciding factor in the game.

The Dons would add one more run in the 5th inning when Jake Berry’s infield single scored the man on third. This was quickly met with a run in the top of the 6th by Las Lomas to cut the deficit at two runs.

Two runs was enough for closer Kevin McConnell to deal with, as he quickly dispersed the Knights and clinched the sixth consecutive win for the Dons.

In their quest for the DFAL title, the Dons (now 19-2 overall, 9-0 DFAL) will have a crucial matchup with Dublin (7-2 DFAL) on Thursday to determine whether the Dons will repeat as DFAL champions.
