// The Lafayette School District placed Stanley Middle School Principal Nicole Chaplan on leave on Jan. 28 as officials investigate her involvement in a sex abuse case against a former teacher at San Ramon Valley High School (SRVHS).
The same day, Stanley Middle School parents received an email from Lafayette School District Superintendent Brent Stephens detailing Chaplan’s leave. Currently, Assistant Principal Brian Mangold fills the role of Interim Principal.
Chaplan was previously Vice Principal at SRVHS before becoming Stanley Middle School’s Principal at the start of the 2022-2023 school year.
Authorities raised questions about Chaplan’s misconduct in the case against Nicholas Moseby, who is currently facing charges of child molestation, sexual battery, and felony counts of lewd acts upon a child during his tenure in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District.
The East Bay Times and The Mercury News, local newspapers, first reported on Moseby’s felony charges in Sept. 2022 for sending a student explicit images on Snapchat. Additionally, Moseby has faced further charges of felonies and misdemeanors involved at NorCal Elite Cheer, SRVHS, and Diablo Vista Middle School.
The investigation of Chaplan includes critical records currently missing involving reports of Moseby’s sexual abuse and her conflict of interest as a personal reference for Moseby’s hire. Look to Blueprint Issue 6 for an in-depth investigative article.
