Blueprint would like to issue a public apology to the entirety of Blueprint readership and the Acalanes community.
Our most recent issue contains an offensive and vulgar cartoon caption that was printed in connection with the story “The Things We Carry in the Asian Knapsack,” by Jin Heo.
Text in the body of the cartoon is written in Chinese that expresses a vulgar and inappropriate message, and the individuals primarily responsible for the content are being dealt with both internally as part of Blueprint and through the school’s disciplinary system.
The text within the cartoon was conceived in poor taste and the product of a most regrettable lapse in judgement but was not meant to be disrespectful or to target any specific group.
The offensive message detracts from the importance of the story and the serious message it conveys and is utterly inconsistent with professional standards of journalism.
The author of the article was not involved in the making of the cartoon.
Blueprint’s advisors and editors apologize for the lack of professionalism and sensibility in this matter and take full responsibility for the offensive and inappropriate content.
